Wing Commander Universe Version Numbering System

The version number of WCU project should consists of three numbers. For illustration, let it be assumed that the version number is composed thus: A.B.C (e.g. 1.0.1, 1.4.13 or 1.6.12).

  • The A number denotes a final release version. It is changed least frequently, and only when major changes in the code and the concept of the game occur.
  • The B number denotes the major revision of the game.
    • Even numbers indicate a stable release, i.e. one that is deemed fit for playable use, such as 1.2, 1.4 or 1.6.
    • Odd numbers are development releases, such as 1.1 or 2.5. Were we are testing new features until they became sufficiently stable to be included in a stable release.
  • The C number indicates the minor revision of the game such as minor bug fixes and patches, but no new features.

Also, sometimes after the version there will be some more letters such as 'rc1.' The 'rc' refers to release candidate and indicates a non-official release.

Current playable Beta release without a story. There will be important changes to the next release. Any changes to the code should be applied to the 0.3.x release. Models not remade for 0.3.x will be placed in the next ship pack, but will not be supported out of the box in 0.4.x.

Aim to be first officially announced public release!

  • Base backgrounds for all the extra bases and planets (incl. kilrathi bases)
  • Shield meshes for the capships (see vegastrike)
  • Python fix -- have Tayla give you a secret cargo expansion, now that we have it
  • Need to decide if RF happens before or after the end of the war; adapt plot accordingly
  • More scripted systems:
    • Kilrah (both pre-war and post-war variants needed)
    • Ella
    • Rostov (we need a lot of asteroids there)
    • any that anyone feel like doing
  • Tweak autogen a bit
    • use Kilrathi names in Kilrathi space
  • Update website to properly include WCU alongside Privateer Remake
  • Crew system (mainly for capships, but also usable on galaxy and maybe tarsus)
  • Exploratory radar / grey zone implementation
  • Way to mark end of the war (big news, change bartender speeches, etc.)
  • Write some more bartender speeches, they should be at least sector-specific
  • Some required plotline changes
    • Need brief military stint between end of Priv and start of RF: Terrel offering you Confed work "on your own terms", i.e. no enlistment, & a chance to fly a milspec fighter w/o having to pay for repairs
    • Move AWACS plot post-war & maybe out of Gemini
  • Some optional plotlines
    • BW plotline
    • Landreich plotline
    • Pirate/"Grey zone" preliminary plotline, you get access to some systems
    • Hint that pieces of Steltek tech are still around?
  • Prequel plotline
    • It would be nice to have either a better retelling of the Scarab story, via cutscenes; would be nice to have the player fly the Sheol defense mission

Current release of legecy Wing Commander models.

Note: The Ship Packs will be super ceded by the 0.3.x branch which will have some fully qualified models. All 0.2.x models will be maintained in the next ship pack.
