Fearing a military coup by the Belisarius Group, the Confederation scrambles to reduce its armed forces.
False Colors

The Senate requires that the number of fighter squadrons be cut by one-third. Adm. Geoffrey Tolwyn works
around the requirement by raising the number of fighters in an average squadron from ten back to the
pre-war level of sixteen. In response, the Senate demands that the 40-series carriers be scrapped and
that 11,000 military personnel are dropped from active duty.

The Terran Confederation military begins a downsizing program. Moonbase Tycho’s complement is reduced
to one quarter of its wartime strength.

The Free Republic of the Landreich begins buying surplus warships from the Terran Confederation.
A special team for reviewing and refitting ships as quickly as possible is formed.
Four light cruisers, including the TCS Andromache (FRLS Thermistocles), are purchased – as are three escort carriers,
including the TCS Tarawa (FRLS Independence) and the TCS Saipan (FRLS Arbroath).
The third (second purchased) escort carrier is named FRLS Magna Carta.
The nation also begins recruiting notable Confederation officers.
Adm. Richards ostensibly retires from Terran Confederation Naval Intelligence to serve as part of the core
leadership for President Kruger’s expanding post-war navy.
