Vega Strike permette ai giocatori di esplorare un universo ampiamente dinamico dove si scontrano le frontiere di diversi imperi e fazioni; in questo universo voi siete un pilota che cerca di sbarcare il lunario, e magari di diventare ricco, o forse, se le condizioni lo permettono, di fare qualcosa di più. Vega Strike è un gioco non lineare, dove potete fare più o meno quello che volete.

L'universo di gioco incorpora una economia dinamica, permettendo al vostro personaggio di fare il commerciante. Scoprite quali merci e quali rotte consentono i profitti più alti, quali beni potete trasportare con la vostra nave, accettate [[Manual:Computer:Missions_screen|missioni]] di trasporto e imparate a evitare le zone pericolore (le riparazioni ''costano''!).

Se vi stancate di fare soldi con viaggi noiosi, o volete provare qualcos'altro, avete altre strade da percorrere per arrivare al successo. Vega Strike implementa un generatore di missioni in grado di proporre sfide per ogni pilota, che sia veterano o fresco di accademia. Missioni scorta, missioni per cacciatori di taglie, contratti per uccidere e missioni da mercenario; oppure vi piace viaggiare? Esplorate i limiti dell'universo conosciuto e allargate le conoscenze della razza umana. Il lato oscuro è forte in voi? C'è sempre la pirateria... se ve la sentite di affrontare le conseguenze.

Se la vostra nave non è adatta al tipo di attività che volete, in Vega Strike potete cambiare la vostra nave con un'altra, versando la differenza in denaro. Ci sono scafi adatti a praticamente ogni tipo di attività: carghi, astrocaccia, navi passeggeri, navi da guerra leggere e pesanti. Ogni nave è configurabile, e può esere equipaggiata con tutta una serie di attrezzature opzionali: dati i [[Terminology:Credits|crediti]] necessari potete renderla perfetta per le vostre esigenze.
