- The aging Archimedes class of vessels are among the oldest, military or civilian, still in use by the Andolian Protectorate. The ships are fragile relative to more modern weaponry, and limited in the length of their sustained engagements, but are still more than a match for almost anything that can be mustered by a non-major power. The Archimedes class benefits in continued utility from its ability to lauch capital missiles much more recently designed than the ship itself and a fairly recent series of overhauls of sensors, ecm, and the two main turret batteries. However, secondary weaponry has not been renovated. The Archimedes class is thus useful only in a standoff role, until it has exhausted its missile supply, and is distinctly vulnerable otherwise; although the main turret batteries have non-trivial damage output, they are neither remotely sufficient on their own to address a full fledged capital assailant, nor are they suited towards dealing with large numbers of small targets. Many Archimedes were built in their heyday, and a large portion of those vessels are still in service.
