Homeworld (Origin) Most human inhabited worlds.

Space pirating began soon after Humans encountered other sentient beings cruising the dark ocean of space. These early explorers decided that it was in there best interest to eradicate all other species they met. This soon proved impossible and they had to sign treaties that put them at a disadvantage. One of the most important treaty they were forced to sign, was the Confederation Non-Agression Pact, it limited the number of armed vessels the confederacy could maintain. It soon became apparent that the early Confederation of Inhabited Worlds (or Confed)could not withstand the constant onslaught of the other factions without more armed vessels. Thus letters of marquee and reprisal were issued against all such factions. This allowed merchants to form a merchant marine and effectively defend their cargo. Naturally, these privateers found that when nearby sectors were cleared of enemy factions, it was easier to prey on vessels of other factions including the early Confederation's weak supply ships. Another source for pirates, were (and still are)merchant vessels run by smugglers or other factions that the Confederation has outlawed. It is sometimes easier for a pilot that has a bounty on his head (for exhample, the leader of Proles' Fist, "Troika" (Dmitri Koenig) for belonging to the Intersteller Socialist Organization or ISO) to use piracy to fund his exploits.

There are reports that sometimes, on rare occasions, other species end up as pirates. Because of the completely different psychology of these other pirates and because Homeland Security (a subset of Confed IntelSec) has not been able to apprehend one, there is nothing more than hearsay about them. So there might be a possiblility of this meme spreading to other species that come in contact with pirates; especially those that make a profit off of them.

Because any vessel that acts like a pirate is classified as one. That is, unless they belong to one of the more powerful factions. In which case piracy is renamed commandeering, or capturing. There are many factions and individuals that can be called pirates. Here is a list from the office of Homeland Security:

  • Adalian Supremacy (Radical Terrorist Force)
  • Klkk Killers (Supremacist Gang)
  • Allni Philum (Secret Society Banned from owning armed vessels)
  • Bohalona (A militaristic center wing religios movement.)
  • Interstellar Church of True Form's Return (Luddites sometimes are classed in this catagory but only for propaganda's sake)
  • MeGOG (Merchant Guild's Operations Group-No evidence excists, but reports say that the Merchant Guild has an undercover economic operations group for "correcting" prices.
  • Proles' Fist (ISO Operations Group)
  • Purerists (Fundamental Purist faction known to hijack ships from those that are not so pure. Of course, this is after "cleansing" the vessel of all modified beings.)
  • Red Scoundrels (Possible ISO Ops. Group)
  • Robert's Rascals (Purely Piratical Group)
  • Salvage Masters® (A salvage company that went underground after being reported to Homeland Security for attacking vessles before using the law of salvage to pick up flotsom and jetsom and in there case whole ships with passengers aboard.)
  • Star Renegades (Mercenary force hired by an unknown faction)
  • QUALM (Unknown connections, possibly a less pacifistic group of Forsaken)

That's all for now, please correct any variances with the storyline.
