Earth vs Terra

  • Question re the Vega Strike universe: has Earth also been referred to as "Terra" as it is in a number of different SF universes? --RobertDaeley 10:32, 21 May 2005 (PDT)
    • I always wondered why we would call "earth" something different in the future. I really don't know how old the term "earth" for our home planet is, but i doubt that it will change in the far future (unless there are big changes in the used languages)
That said it doesn't matter for me which term is used since they mean the exact same thing anyway (see terraforming ;) But of course other ppl will have other opinions on this topic.Pontiac 03:09, 22 May 2005 (PDT)
      • Well, I suppose it's for the same reason as referring to our Sun as Sol, as Terra is similarly the latinate for Earth. :) --RobertDaeley 11:45, 22 May 2005 (PDT)
        • Actually the only (or better the most common) usage for Sol is as a name for our solar system (something like "Come on, let's fly to SOL.") not just the sun... which is kinda funny when you think about it :D Pontiac 14:54, 22 May 2005 (PDT)
