UFO: Alien Invasion

UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made. 'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course ;) ).

Xenocide

Another free X-Com remake.

Talon

Another X-Com remake (not as high quality grafics as Xenocide, but hey: who cares ;-))

Nexuiz

Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game made entirely over the internet. The purpose of the game is to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of realistic shooters. It uses HFX textures by Evil Lair, and currently has 17 maps to frag in. With an advanced UI, the user can select between 15 different player models to use, with an average of two skins for each, and can connect to our master server to play people from all over the world.

The game's content and source are GPL. Meaning, it is entirely free and any of it can be used in other free projects, even if modified. This is a first for any large game project of its type. We hope this will support the free game community, and encourage more GPL projects.

Nexuiz is based on the Darkplaces engine. The darkplaces engine is an advanced Quake1 engine developed mainly by Forest "LordHavoc" Hale, who has been working with the Quake1 engine for many years. A few of Darkplaces main features are Quake3bsp support, realtime lighting and shadowing, new particle effects, advanced menu system, and Md3/Md2 model support. Because Nexuiz is based on the Quake1 engine, its source code along with its content is entirely GPL. Nexuiz will also use the Quake1 game code language, called QuakeC, which makes modding the gameplay of the game extremely easy. This gamecode will be included with the release, and will allow anyone to mod it, and because it is entirely serverside you can use it on your servers even if the clients do not have your mod.

Lincity-NG

LinCity-NG is a City Simulation Game. It is a polished and improved version of the classic LinCity game. Within the scope of the GoTM project at happypenguin.org we have created a new iso-3d graphics engine together with a completely redone and modern gui.

Open Outcast

The action-adventure Outcast developed by the Belgian gamestudio Appeal, which unfortunately had to announce insolvency on 08/02/2002, was published in summer 1999 by Infogrames. In Outcast you're EX-Navy SEAL Cutter Slade, who's got to rescue the earth from a black hole after a experiment failing, which requires a journey to a parallel world. There he's told the name of the planet, Adelpha, and that he has to free it from its tyrannic ruler. Cutter travels around in 6 big regions (continents) and solves many (optional) quests. Because the gameplay isn't linear he can choose the order or which quests he wants to complete. While Slade is running/swimming or riding around in the, thanks to the Voxelengine you may know from Comanche, beautiful landscapes of Adelpha, the player is listening to the music performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, that changes dynamicly with the situation.

The OpenSource Engine Crystalspace is the base of our project. There are many cool engines today, but we chose this engine because of its portability (Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, MacOS) and the good documentation. It has also some nice features such as the terrain engine you see on the screenshots or BumpMapping what allows us to get closer to the style of Outcast. It is also permanently developed further, so OpenOutcast can also be technically always up-to-date and it offers us possibilities no proprietary engine can offer, because the whole sourcecode is public and completely free. The license even allows us to create an idependent game based on it without any copyright problems.

Total Annihilation: SPRING

TA Spring is a project aiming to create a new RTS. Until it gets there we are using content such as units from Total Annihilation to get something to play with. We are better programmers than artists. :)

TA Spring reads the TA formats directly without conversions needed, so 3rd party units should work just as well as the original ones. Maps from TA will probably never be supported though. They are not that suited for 3D view anyway, as they are not drawn from above but at an angle. This means that the far side of hills for example lose a lot of detail.

Current features:

  • High resolution maps, viewable from all angles and ranges
  • Dynamic map with craters from weapon and unit explosions
  • Work with unit files from Total annihilation
  • Realistic 3D trajectories for weapons
  • Fully 3D aircombat
  • Several camera modes to suit different tastes
