In the ancient definition a Torpedo is a cigar-shaped, self-propelled underwater projectile launched from a submarine, aircraft, or ship and designed to detonate on contact with or in the vicinity of a target.

In space there is no real difference between a Missile and a Torpedo, but the term Torpedo is often used to name a slower and not that agile Missile.
