We build up in order to defeat Kroiz, our arch-rival, who is building up a fleet himself to come and get Burrows.

But who is Kroiz? He's the "privateer extraordinaire" who tries to intercept your weapons delivery for Lynch to Siva, Rikel.

Lynch: At the end of the game he's at a mining base, can't remember the system... West of Troy. He's not as rich as he was, anymore; he *sells* you a wipe of your records for 100,000 credits; like small time business for a guy that probably used to deal with millions of credits per day. He's lost the quest for steltek technology, he lost his bodyguard, and he lost Tayla. And he seems to have lost his former home-base: New Cons. And maybe he would have moved to Bronte HQ in New Det, but he seems to have lost them too. Now, his biggest problem in life, the way HE saw it, was Menesch. Now Menesch is dead, he should be prospering!, shouldn't he?

There's a new kid in town, I say.

Well, because having a formerly minor rival survive an encounter and come back powerful AND thirsty for revenge is a space opera staple. He could have a mechanical eye or something.

You're right, spirit; I found references and he IS in fact killed by Burroughs. If you don't kill him at the first jump-point, he supposedly attacks you now with 5 demon escorts before you reach your destination. BUT, we're going to have a very expensive, "Stealth Ejection Seat" among the upgrades, right Spirit? He obviously had one, otherwise you would have seen him. And he hid behind an asteroid until you flew away, and then made his way to Eden, where he underwent plastic surgery to his face. Of course, retro surgeons don't believe in technology, so now he wears a mask. Yep, Kroiz used to do that run of weapons supposedly going to Siva, but that's what Lynch was supposed to believe. Kroiz was associated with Menesch, but doing business with Lynch as well. Lynch had contacts with weapons manufacturers in New Det, but Kroiz didn't. So, he'd actually head for Rikel, but change course and use the jump point from Rikel to Eden. He'd tell Lynch he'd been delayed by Kilrathis or Retros. It so happened that Lynch ran into his customer from Siva that was supposed to have received the weapons and apologized for the delay in the last shipment. The customer thought he'd take advantage of the mistake and get a free shipment, and, rather than tell Lynch the hadn't placed an order recently, pretended barely contained impatience and said they were still waiting for it. Lynch though Kroiz had stolen the weapons, and the rest is history.

We wanted to have a powerful rival as the "main" plot. This rival has to hate you, and of course has to be powerful. In the game you meet 4 privateers, seeling i think he flys a talon so he can't be that good, somehow was connected to lynch (it seems he worked for him but messed up) you kill him, Raoridan who you kill when working for tayla this would fit in with tayla trying to kill you first, after that failed she sent you to lynch. Gavorak (Spp), who you kill working for the ES he is crazy, and finally Kroiz, who for me is the best candidate, lynch describes him as working for a "rival", and he knows his name, which sugests that kroiz was his rivals equivilent Miggs (lynches bodygard), so he was powerfull and skilled, and very close to the big boss (who would be mesnuch). your histroy of this was nice.

Mesnuch, didn't want to sell the gun to the kilrathi, the kilrathi wanted to make sure that confed didn't get it, so a deal was cut and it was sold to the retros. Monte was proabbly trying to stop this. The retros crusade comes at a time when confed are vastly outnumberd, so the kilrathi don'T really need the gun to win, but the retros can create havok behind the lines which will interupt confed supplies, weaken the front and draw attention away from the advancing and expanding kilrathi fleet. I don'T know the exact histroy, but my guess is at this time the kilrathi had more ships then they had pilots to fly them, thats why they would have no problem selling some of the lesser ships to the retros (and lets face it sathis aren't that good)

I guess we have differing views of the retros. For me the retros are a religion, and religons are extreamly powerful, the reason i beleve the retros would continue despite the death of morici, is that it is about the religious docterine, not jones, infact you have cleared the way to replace jones with a real fanatic like the informat, who believes that the ends justify the means, he won't care if he lies to someone like you, and he will seize the oppertunity given to him. As a religion it would have many many members, intergrated into society, in powerfull positions who would donate large sums of money along side what retro owned buisnesses bring in, and (in the case of the ES) even take the risk of setting them aside planets. At the beginging of WCU, the idea is that after the first few missions, you won'T really know who you are fighting! it will seem like a cival war.

Kroiz, will seize the oppertunity in the chaos he has created to start to opbliterate his rivals, Daemian Lang, and especially Lynch. I had an idea that Lynch would be hideing out somewhere in the Grey zone, haveing lost most of his assets, he is running a gang war, and you will help him cripple some of Kroiz's empire, cutting off supplies to the retros form kroiz (under the guize of a compney like Rondell), which forces the retros to go to the kilrathi with the gun to get more weapons. When working for lynch you will find out about the Palan buisness, and battle for the seltek stuff.


Indeed, Lynch might become a valuable ally, and might even come to the TriSystem and help manage some planet.


With regards to building a fleet, we need to study the matter a bit. I found this post by Quarto:

Keep in mind that, originally at least, destroyers were not anti-capship vessels. The name 'destroyer' is a highly
misleading one, because it's a shortened version of their original name - 'torpedo boat destroyer'.
All things considered, it's pretty unusual for destroyers to be operating alone, and even more unusual for them to
undertake offensive actions alone. As such, they don't need strike fighters - nor do they need large escorts,
because they already are escorts :p. Cruisers, on the other hand, are usually armed with more anti-capship weapons
(both the Plunkett and the Hades class has anti-capship plasma weaponry), so they also don't really need strike
fighters - although the Hades class certainly has them anyway.

Before I read that, to me, a destroyer and a cruiser were the same thing --"medium sized ships" :D Time to google up on Naval tactics and strategy...
