Time wise WCU: Future takes place after 2682, after Wing Commander Prophecy
The overarching story, and layering of the story:
The Nephilim have returned after many millennia way. (covered in WCP) The Confederation knows the Nephilim have a gate portal technology which allows them to potentially enter and dominate any system at will. At the moment none of the races have any absolute defense against the Nephilim threat, and most of the major battle groups from all races have fallen back to key locations within their respective borders. The original battle lines from the Great War are no more because this time the threat can strike anywhere, at any time.
The next layer is the Steltek (covered in privateer) Wonder what ever happened to them, and how they fit into the over all Wing Commander Universe? The idea is to make the Steltek sworn enemy of the Nephilim. They battled the Nephilim across the known universe before Terran or the Kilrathi were even around. The Steltek being arguably the most mysterious race, have access to another network of jump links as well as the current one. This will allows them to travel between stars almost invisibly, and allows for them to take on the Nephilim at there choosing
From the Steltek and Nephilim point of views this is not about the Kilrathi or the Terran’s, it is an on going war that has just reignited. This is very high level, and what ever path you choose, you will be in the cross fire.
Because the Kilrathi and the Confederation are at relative peace so you can play as either race. However the agreed to peace doesn’t mean that there are growing elements on both sides that would like to see the original war reignite.
